How quickly we forget about the things that once entertained us, for example, do you recall the Bushwick trailer park artist commune? They were fun. In 2009 they set up shop and for two whole months were l-i-v-i-n' the dream... until the FDNY came knocking. At that point we talked to someone on the inside, who told us they were laying low for a while. Now, HEEB tells their story upon their departure... that's right, they were kicked to the curb. They report:
Kings Building Supply, a brickyard that says that they have the lease for the Bushwick Trailer Park - an expanse that inhabits a collective of young artists and stretches to almost a full city block - ousted the semi-secret living situation under legal pressure from the NY & Atlantic railways for permitting the trailers to reside on the lot. Though due process of 30 days notice was not observed, residents say, police participated in the eviction, rejecting documented proof from the tenants that they were legally allowed to be on the property. NYPD did not respond for comment when asked why they executed an eviction to resident given less than one week’s notice to leave.
All belongings were reportedly pushed onto the street with forklifts and bulldozers, and will possibly be impounded. Plus, there's no word on where the community's three chickens and one rescue dog (pictured) are! Neighbors say the inhabitants there were polite and even re-purposed the land, converting the long unused space into a sustainable living space, with a garden.
