Gay porn star and producer Michael Lucas—who you might remember from such films as Piss!, Men in Stockings, Feet! and Farts!—is once again calling for a boycott of the NYC LGBT Center. Earlier this year the Center was persuaded, in part because of the fuss made by Lucas, to cancel an event for an anti-Israel group called Siege Busters Working Group but now the group has merged with another group, "Queers Against Israeli Apartheid," and gotten space at the Center. And Lucas is livid.
It isn't that Lucas thinks the Center should not allow groups that criticize any governments to meet in its rooms, he's upset over the use of the word apartheid, which he feels is an "inaccurate and an intentionally hate-loaded term."
The Center, for its part, put out a statement defending its decision to let Queers Against Israeli Apartheid in. Basically they are still trying to figure out how to be inclusive to groups which pay to use its space (they've even hired a consultant to help "facilitate a thorough review of the Center’s current standards and procedures for determining space use by outside groups") and while they do that they are letting Queers Against Israeli Apartheid in because, well, unlike Siege Busters Working Group, it has "Queers" in its name.
In response, Lucas suggests that if the NYC LGBT Center is to embrace this new "policy of moral relativism, it will need to open its doors immediately to other hate organizations that cleverly append the word "queer" to their names." Like what? Lucas was ready for that question! He suggests, "Queer Neo Nazis," "Queers for Al Qaeda," "Queers for Ahmadinejad," "Queers for Prop 8," or "Queers Against Gay Adoption."
In the meantime he is calling for a boycott of the center, asking those who donate to it to instead support "organizations who put the interests of the LGBT community above those of fringe political groups." What we want to know is how long it will be until his company produces a porn called Queer Neo Nazis.
