In something straight out of a What If? comic, Professor X and Magneto are teaming up in one of the more intriguing bits of theater news we've heard since the rumors of a Trapped In The Closet musical. This Fall Ian McKellen and Patrick "Park Slope" Stewart are going to be starring in a two-play repertory production of Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land and Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot on Broadway. Uh, we can't wait.
This actually isn't the first time the pair have played out Beckett's existential classic (they did a London production of the show in 2009) but it is the first time they'll do it here. And they haven't done No Man's Land before (they'll be doing a tryout at some point this summer to get it ready). According to producers Captain Picard will be playing Vladimir in Godot and Hirst in No Man's Land while Gandalf will be playing Estragon in Godot and Spooner in No Man's Land. The shows, which will be performed in repertory, will be directed by Sean Mathias with details like costars, performance dates and a theater still to come.
Please, oh, please can somebody at Marvel recognize the chance for a tie-in here and do a comic book one-off in which Mastermind forces Magneto and Professor X to enact Godot over and over and over?
