So that bamboo thing that's been intricately and artistically weaved together on top of the Met? It's been unveiled (NewYorkology has some new photos), and so have the rules for a guided tour through it. While visitors are welcome to just view it from a distance on the roof, there is also an option to walk along elevated pathways within the sculpture. The museum notes that the walking surface may be uneven, but if you want to brave it, here are the rules:
- You must wear appropriate shoes.
- You must be able to walk without assistance. Unfortunately, wheelchairs and other mobility devices (e.g., crutches, canes, and walkers) cannot be accommodated except for canes with wrist straps used by visitors with visual impairments. Visitors may be accompanied by their service animals.
- Children must be at least 10 years old and at least 48 inches tall.
- Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- You must weigh less than 400 pounds.
- You cannot be under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicant.
Per the last rule, the museum's martini bar will be serving up “Big Bambú” cocktails on weekends... so try to quench your thirst after walking through the monstrosity. Anyway, when do you think the first lawsuit will be?
