Gowanus has been getting the gourmet treatment lately, what with all the Whole Foods-ing and house-cured meats hanging around the neighborhood. Now, Gowanus is getting a massive ice cream shop, complete with a "toxic sludge" flavor that has not, to our knowledge, been dipped in the canal, but who knows anymore.
Ample Hills Creamery's currently schilling out frozen treats over in Prospect Heights, but they announced this week that they'll be opening a 3,600-square-foot outpost at 305 Nevins Street in Gowanus, complete with two floors and 24 tasty flavors. And one of those flavors, to be dubbed "toxic sludge," is a solid nod to Brooklyn's favorite fetid canal, located down the block from Ample Hills' future ice cream churns. "It will probably involve chocolate,” Ample Hills co-owner Brian Smith told the Daily News. And hopefully not hepatitis.
The Gowanus store is set to open this spring, and it will apparently produce all the creamy goods up for grabs at both Ample Hills locations, though both the Prospect Heights parlor and the Ample Hills food cart will continue to dole out hits like "Sweet As Honey," "The Munchies" and "Ooey Gooey Butter Cake." Is it summer yet? NOW, PLEASE.
