Last summer Downtown diners were saddened to hear that longtime locavore favorite Savoy was shutting its SoHo doors after 21 years. Luckily, chef and owner Peter Hoffman didn't give the space up—he just dialed it down. Now he's reopened the joint as Back Forty West, an off-shoot of his popular Avenue A tavern, Back Forty.

The menu, by original Back Forty chef Shanna Pacifico, has also been simplified from its older incarnation, though it still has a few old favorites from the old days (yes, there will be cassoulet). You can check out the lunch menu below for options like chicken and waffles ($15) and a grilled kale and escarole salad ($12). Not to mention sandwiches like the flash-fried rock shrimp with radish and remoulade ($9), acorn squash tempura ($5) and, of course, a burger ($12). Back Forty West also boasts Terroir Coffee and a whole new cocktail program developed in consultation with the head bartender at the Clover Club.

As for the looks, the newbie is purposely less formal than its predecessor, and so now has more communal tables (the better to enjoy "large format" meals like suckling pig) as well a new 14-seat bar downstairs. Still there, however, are the large windows looking out onto the pretty people and tourists populating Prince and Crosby Streets.

Right now the restaurant is starting off with just lunch, but dinner and breakfast are coming soon and the plan is to serve brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Because sometimes what you really want on a Sunday evening looks nothing like dinner.
