Now celebrating its 20th year, Canstruction has returned to lower Manhattan in all its can-tastic glory. The annual design competition and charity event was originally scheduled to take place last November but because of Hurricane Sandy organizers had to postpone the event until this month.
Twenty-six New York City architecture and design firms participated this year, using over 100,000 cans of food to build their works of art. A Jeff Koons dog, a beehive, a classic NYC coffee cup and a model of the Staten Island ferris wheel are just a few of the imaginative offerings from this year's competition.
The winning can sculpture will be chosen at a private event this evening and you can see all of the designs in person at the World Financial Center until 5 p.m. on February 11th. After that, the sculptures will be disassembled and the cans donated to City Harvest.
