Your happy hour is safe, for now. Despite distressing reports in the New York Post this weekend, a rep from the Department of Health tells us that rumors that Commissioner Thomas Farley wants to ban happy hours from the city are "completely untrue." Phew!

Over the weekend the Post reported that high-level conversations have gone beyond merely "throwing pencils on the ceiling and seeing what sticks" and that city was seriously mulling banning happy hours outright (something which 19 states have done already). Mayor Bloomberg, however, quickly shot down the report, noting that the tabloid deserved a Pulitzer for "irresponsible journalism" for filing the report.

Today the paper wouldn't let it go though, arguing that the reason Bloomberg was miffed was because, according to a source, "It’s possible that the mayor wasn’t brought on board yet." Possible, yes. But we're going to take the word of the Mayor and the DOH on this one. Mostly because the idea of a New York without Happy Hours is too depressing to consider for very long.
