In what seemed to take mere minutes, the former Gallery restaurant across from the York Street stop in DUMBO has become the new Dumbo Kitchen. The shop kicked things off today with a preview that runs until 7 p.m., but exactly what'll be available there day-to-day seems to be a little touch and go. Judging by the current selection—which appears to be aiming to attract the lunchers who currently flock to the Foragers supermarket—we'd say getting Italian-inspired lunch food there looks like a safe bet.

Inside, the decor hasn't changed too much from its last incarnation. The look is simple and clean with exposed lights and dark wood. Each section of the resto-market is clearly marked—"meats," "prepared foods," and "the bar," for example. Currently, the made-to-order sandwiches and made-to-order pizzas are the only thing with listed prices, although there is also a salad bar, some prepared food items and a bakery.

The pizzas seem pretty basic (margherita, proscuitto and arugula) but there were some slightly more exciting options like shrimp and crabmeat, too. Plus, they are cheaper than nearby electric oven pizza joint Wild Rise's pies (and available the whole week). Meanwhile the sandwiches, all named by numbers, seem a bit more varied with offerings like ribeye with arugula and horseradish sauce. There is no table service at the Dumbo Kitchen, but dine-in is an option. And it looks like they'll definitely have outdoor seating, too.
