Not to obsess about this or anything, but in other parts of Obamamerica consumers get weeks to enjoy McDonald's succulent Shamrock Shakes, sometimes as early as February and lasting through St. Patrick's Day. But here in the provincial backwater of New York City, we haven't had a taste of their minty goodness for years, thanks to some sort of byzantine decision-making process at the regional franchise level. Yesterday, finally, a few local McDonald's shocked New Yorkers out of their despondency by offering the special shake, but then ran out faster than you can say Mxyzptlk. Now whose head shall we mount on this sharpened stick? We're going with Jimmy Fallon.
As pointed out by one of our astute commenters, last night everyone in the studio audience of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon got a Shamrock Shake, just for sitting there and yukking it up. Which would explain another report that after the Union Square McDonald's ran out, an employee blamed it on a man who bought 100 Shamrock Shakes. The smoking gun leads us back to the last few moments of Fallon's broadcast, where the Mc'host himself stands holding one of the elusive frozen dessert products. "Everyone in the audience is getting a Shamrock Shake on the way out," Fallon gloats. See for yourself:
Well, isn't that nice for the audience. But what about the rest of us in New York, who can't send out interns at a moment's notice to fulfill our every whim? (Or can we?) And even if we do, big shots like Fallon straight up 'rock-block us. Well, there may be some scintilla of good news: Our source at the Union Square McDonald's tells us they're expecting more of the secret Shamrock syrup as soon as tomorrow, and will be serving the shakes again at that time. We'll keep you updated as the situation develops, but how many more posts do we have to write before McDonald's sends us over a lousy shake?
