Next week brings not only the First Official Day Of Spring, but also the return of Macaron Day, the celebration of delicate French cookies filled with flavored cream. Next Friday, March 20th, a bunch of area patisseries will be offering free macarons at their stores for customers who come and mention the holiday. Brought to the USA by French pastry master Francois Payard in 2010, the festival has grown to include over a dozen local shops and has raised lots of money for City Harvest.
Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., shops including Epicerie Boulud, Eclair Bakery and of course Francois Payard Patisserie and Bakery are offering one free macaron to anyone who stops by. Some spots are taking the celebration even further, like Macaron Parlour, who'll be open 24-hours starting at 8 a.m. on Friday morning with a brand new macaron flavor released each hour. They've tapped folks at Davey's Ice Cream, Liddabit Sweets and others to help design the festive flavors.
