It won't enable you to actually breathe fire (bummer), but Ommegang's latest Game of Thrones-themed brew definitely turns up the heat on your taste buds. Previous collaborations have stroked Lannister egos and exalted the Night's Watch; this time it's an homage to Daenerys Targaryen and her scaly, fire-breathing offspring dubbed Fire and Blood.
We scored a few bottles for last night's super horny premiere; we're investing in some horns for next week. It's a beer fit for a Khaleesi—even at her most hardcore. The red ale kicks off with a nice spicy punch, courtesy of the ancho chilies that made their way into the brewing process. Fans of the complex, floral flavors of Belgian beers will appreciate the balanced intensity between the crisp hops and more bread-like flavors of the malt; fans of beer will like it because beer. And dragons!
At 6.8% ABV it'll get you drunker than Ser Dontos at a name day party, especially if you're opting to drink a full 750ml bottle. Ommegang's beer finder can direct you to the nearest outlet selling bottles or pouring the brew on tap; keep in mind it's very limited in quantity, so sending a raven to the outlet in advance wouldn't be out of order. Grocers like Whole Foods and Fairway both carry bottles and bars including Astoria's Sunswick, Pony Bar on the UES and The Owl Farm in Park Slope are currently offering up draft versions. Cheers Dracarys!
