The regular stream of cabbies stopping here at all hours is your first sign that this is a good spot. While there is a menu around (think $1 samosas the size of your hand), you'll be best served by asking what's good todayâthe offerings are constantly changing.

132 Crosby Street, 212-965-1777
There are regular specials on their Twitter feed, and if you really don't want to go out in the slush, they deliver too.

284 Mulberry Street, 212-677-8444
Hecho en Dumbo: This Mexican moved up from Brooklyn to the Bowery last year to much fanfare. But the real trick here is to come for lunch, when its hard to beat their $10 two-courses-and-a-juice lunch prix fixe. And of course, their regular menu is available then too.

354 Bowery, 212-937-4245
If you've been looking to get a glimpse at what the fuss is about, without the dinner wait, then their counter-service lunch is your key. Of course, with their whole "fresh food" thing and their popularity, you are still going to have to wait some, but with options ranging from chicken parm ($8-$10 on a roll or hero) and housemade mozzarella ($9 per pound) you aren't likely to be disappointed.

250 Mulberry Street, 212-965-0955
