We're declaring today unofficial chinese food day on Gothamist, and with that let's talk about Chinatown Restaurant Week, which starts this Saturday, March 16th. As with other restaurant weeks months around town, restaurants are offering prix fixe lunch and dinner meals for $20.13—up from $18.88 last year—at select spots in Manhattan's Chinatown. This year's restaurant week is especially important for neighborhood businesses, which are still recouping after losing power during Hurricane Sandy.
Also increased from last year are the number of participating restaurants, with 19 establishments taking part in the specially priced meal and another three offering other deals. Red Egg, Pho Grand and Golden Unicorn are all taking part; Peking Duck House will only offer the special during lunch and Nha Trang One only for dinner but you can drop in for either meal at the rest of the restaurants.
Mottzar Kitchen has three menus for diners to chose from, including one that comes with Lobster with Ginger and Scallion and another with a Half Peking Duck with pancakes. Shanghai Cuisine is offering four courses: appetizer, soup and dessert plus an entree choice of Shrimp with Ginger and Scallion, Chinese Eggplant with Beef or Sauteed Pea Tip with Black Mushroom, among others. Check back on opening day for specific menus from each eatery, which will be running their deals through March 31st.
