In this city, restaurants come and go faster than you can say "sustainable locavore burger." And even though there are great new additions to the culinary landscape popping up every week, you've gotta give kudos to anyone who can stick it out for over a year. With that in mind, we bring you Still Got It, our tribute to establishments that continue to serve mouthwatering meals and drinks long after the buzz has faded—or if the lingering hype is still justified.
There's plenty of fancy pizza to eat (and wait several hours for) in North Brooklyn. But if you're in the mood for a slice—plain, vegan, or topped with chicken and sausage—Bedford Ave standby Vinnie's Pizzeria will feed you until you can be fed no more.
The counter service joint's been in the area for 50 years and boasts an outpost in Greenpoint—both dole out piping hot pies and fresh, flavorful slices that come in a slew of flavors. Vinnie's is known for its dedication to chalkboard puns, and back in the day they had the gall to stand up to freeloading hipster employees.
But the real draw here is the food. You can't go wrong with plain or margherita, but The Mac Attack slices are for the true believers, featuring hefty hunks of mac-and-cheese dotted with bacon and sour cream. So too is the Cowboy, made with ground beef bacon, roasted red peppers, jalapenos and ranch dressing.
As a bonus, Vinnie's has quite a few vegetarian and vegan pies (hey, Williamsburg!). Plus, the garlic knots there are things to behold, and if you're friendly enough they may slip you an extra one—take the whole batch to nearby Soft Spot during happy hour for a delectable drinking feast.
Vinnie's has two locations in Brooklyn: 148 Bedford Avenue between North 8th and 9th Streets in Williamsburg (7180782-7078, vinniesbrooklyn.com). and at 253 Nassau Avenue between Kingsland Avenue and Monitor Street in Greenpoint (718-389-2600, vinniesbrooklyn.com).
