Nine people were shot and four more were injured in East New York early this morning when gunfire erupted at a house party at about 2:15. The shooting took place outside a two-story house at Stanley Avenue and Crescent Street following a dispute, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.

Those shot included six women and three men, ranging in age from 19 to 38, and none of their injuries are life-threatening, the spokeswoman said. Two were taken to Kings County Hospital Center, and the remainder to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Four others suffered cuts and scrapes in the fracas.

The New York Post spoke to Faylo Alston, a resident of the Louis H. Pink Houses across the street from the crime scene. He described hearing more than five shots as he was walking to a nearby store.

"Everyone laid down on the ground," he said, "and when the shooting stopped, everyone got up and ran. Everyone scattered."

It has been a violent weekend in the city.

The Daily News notes that someone shot a 46-year-old man dead in a courtyard at the Whitman Houses in Fort Greene around the same time as the East New York lead shower, and, less than an hour earlier in a playground in Sound View, the Bronx, 20-year-old Christian Garcia was fatally shot and two others were injured. Then, around 3:45 in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the stomach in a drive-by shooting at Flatbush Avenue and Lincoln Road.

One person was killed and seven others injured by gunfire in Brooklyn on Friday night.

The blocks immediately surrounding the corner of the East New York shooting had actually seen a dip in recorded violent crime, before the latest hail of bullets broke the calm. In 2014, the four adjacent blocks were the scene of three robberies and seven felony assaults, plus a few grand larcenies, according to NYPD data. Compare that to two grand larcenies and one felony assault between January and June of this year.
