A teenager is recovering at a Queens hospital after police said he was shot and injured on the subway during rush hour Monday evening.

NYPD officials said the incident happened around 6 p.m. on a northbound A train that was approaching the 80th Street station in Ozone Park.

Responding officers found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his torso, and rendered him aid.

The officers took the boy in a police vehicle to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, according to the NYPD.

Detectives were still investigating the shooting and police had not made any arrests as of early Tuesday.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a statement he was relieved the teen was expected to survive.

“This was an unacceptable incident; violence like this has no place on our subway system, and my administration is committed to doing everything in our power to make every New Yorker — especially children — safe on their daily commutes,” the mayor said.

The incident comes on the heels of several other recent shootings in the city where teens were allegedly involved either as victims or suspects.

On April 16, 15-year-old Jaden Pierre was fatally shot in a Queens park after a water fight turned violent, authorities said. Police later arrested 18-year-old Zahir Davis and charged him with murder for the shooting.

Last week, officials said 16-year-old Marquise Byfield was shot and killed inside a bodega in East New York. Police said they are still looking for the person responsible for his death.

NYPD data since 2020 shows more young people suspected of gun violence, even as the number of victims under 18 has fallen from its peak in 2022. Experts say it’s hard to pinpoint a single reason for this trend, but some argue teens do not face adequate consequences for gun possession under state law.

Major transit crime is down more than 3% citywide so far this year, compared to the same period last year, police data shows. Shootings across the city are down more than 2% year over year.
