Police are looking for four people who allegedly stole around $50,000 worth of medicine from pharmacies around the city this summer.
According to the NYPD, the thieves robbed eight different businesses in three separate crime sprees, targeting pharmacies from Flushing, Queens, Gravesend, Brooklyn, to Pelham Gardens in the Bronx.
On July 6 alone, the suspects made off with more than $35,000 in medicine and $8,000 in cash by burglarizing three different pharmacies in Queens, police said. The following day, they were at it again in Brooklyn: targeting Rite Script pharmacy on Avenue U, according to the NYPD. When they were unable to cut the front gate lock of that business, they turned their efforts to Your Neighborhood pharmacy near the Canarsie pier, ultimately taking more than $28,000 worth of medication and causing more than $10,000 in property damage, police said.
The burglars were most recently reported on September 5, when they unsuccessfully tried to break into Livewell pharmacy in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood. After that, they tried MainPoint pharmacy in Flushing, but were also unable to get in, officials said. Their last target was OK pharmacy in Flushing, where they took more than $4,000 in medication along with cash from a safe, according to police.
NYPD officials said the team of thieves showed up at several of the locations in a gray Porsche SUV or a BMW SUV. They targeted each pharmacy between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., according to police. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Officials did not specify whether the suspects are men, women or both. Photos and videos from police show them each wearing light-colored hoodies that obscure their faces.
