The police have taken fingerprints from the bike believed to have been trashed by the Times Square bomber. They are also looking for traces of DNA left on the bike and checking cellphone transmissions in the area during Thursday early morning, which is when a bomb exploded outside the army recruiting center.
First, the police are " trying to eliminate nonsuspect fingerprints" because a number of people handled the bike when it was discovered and before it was handed over to the police. The Sun reports investigators hope the owner or salespeople at shop where the bike was sold can "provide a key clue, such as a sales receipt or a physical description of the person who purchased the bicycle." (The bike is 10 years old, so a physical description might be unlikely.) The now-closed shop has not been identified and is described as being north of the city.
The Post reports the police want to talk to a man who threw a burning rag at an army recruiting center in the Bronx a few years ago: "Police don't believe the man is a likely suspect in the Times Square bombing but want to rule him out, a source said."
