Mayor Bloomberg thinks people need to stop complaining that it took so long for the police to get aspiring rapper/attention whore Raymond "CI Joe" Velasquez off that Times Square lamppost earlier this week. It wasn't "the world's worst thing," Bloomberg said on his weekly radio show today (listen here).

Echoing a number of police officers, Bloomberg pointed out that it could have been dangerous if the police had rushed the rapper off the pole. "If they Taser somebody, they can die," he said. "It's a judgment call. It's easy for us to sit there and make fun of it and say I would have done it differently.

"Nobody got hurt. Inconvenienced? Yes. Is it the world's worst thing? No. Should it have happened? No. But let's blame the guy who did it, not the cops who responded." And to that end Velasquez has been charged with reckless endangerment, trespassing and disorderly conduct

But Bloomberg did have one nice thing to say about that stunt: "Having said that, he certainly got a lot of publicity."
