A 20-year-old Bronx man is facing attempted murder and assault charges in the shooting of Jets cornerback Kris Boyd outside a Manhattan restaurant last month, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Frederick Green is accused of shooting Boyd outside of venue Sei Less on West 38th Street around 2 a.m. on Nov. 16. Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, police said. The bullet had passed through his groin and abdomen and left a fragment in his pulmonary artery, requiring him to undergo surgery, according to a criminal complaint.
Green, who is also charged with weapons possession in the case, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday, a day after law enforcement officials say he turned himself in to authorities in Buffalo. Police officials said he had been hiding in his girlfriend’s apartment.
The criminal complaint states the incident was captured on surveillance video, and T-Mobile records placed Green’s cellphone near Sei Less at the time of the shooting. He was wearing a mask when he shot Boyd, according to the complaint, and two shell casings were recovered at the scene.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny last month said Boyd was with two other Jets players and a friend from Texas when a group of men outside the restaurant mocked their clothing as they walked in.
After the group spent 10 to 12 minutes inside, they resumed their taunts, leading to a fight and the gunfire, according to police. Kenny said the alleged shooter fled the scene in a white BMW.
Gothamist could not immediately reach Green’s attorney on Wednesday. A Jets spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
A judge ordered Green held without bail. He is scheduled to appear again in court Friday.
