A Brooklyn man was fatally stabbed and his wife critically injured at home Thursday night, police said as they looked for the person responsible for the attack.
NYPD officers responded to a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. about two people stabbed at East 69th Street and Avenue M in Bergen Beach. Police found 49-year-old Juan Manuel Galicia and his wife, also 49, both with multiple stab wounds, officials said.
The couple was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where Galicia was pronounced dead. His wife is still in grave condition at the hospital, according to the NYPD.
Police said they suspect the couple’s son-in-law in the attack, describing him as in his 30s, roughly 5’6” and wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and blue pants around the time of the incident. Authorities said they’re investigating a potential motive for the stabbings.
There were three homicides and 153 felony assaults in the 63rd Precinct, which includes Bergen Beach and other southeast Brooklyn neighborhoods, this year through Dec. 7, according to police data. That compares to two homicides and 168 felony assaults by the same point last year. Those crime categories have fallen 21% and risen less than 1%, respectively, citywide since 2024, the data shows.
