2007_12_clemensalds.jpgAnd now Congress is getting in the act. They have “invited” current/former Yankees, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Chuck Knoblauch to testify January 16th. In addition, Brian McNamee and Kurt Radomski have also been invited.

Obviously, the man everyone wants to hear from is Clemens. If he is innocent like he claims, appearing under oath in front of Congress shouldn’t be a big deal, although his lawyer has refused to commit to appearing saying, “we hope to determine shortly if schedules and other commitments can accommodate the committee on that date." Note to Roger: this isn’t an invitation to an autograph session.

If Clemens refuses to appear, his claims of innocence will rightfully take a big hit. But, if he does appear and swears that he never took steroids or HGH, then what happens? Brian McNamee will presumably contradict Clemens under oath and then you have a mess on your hands. Remember, Roger has had some private investigators digging into this for the past few weeks. Maybe they were looking to see if there was any evidence of Clemens’ guilt rather than trying to prove his innocence? One thing’s for sure, expect some great theater on the 16th, after all, remember what happened last time.
