An explosion and fire on Staten Island last night managed to knock the walls off of one building, yet miraculously only sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries. Firefighters arrived at the Richmond Terrace scene, where the flames reportedly raged on the second floor, around 2:45 a.m. last night and almost immediately called an all-hands fire.

Twelve people from the home were evacuated, along with four neighbors. "We started seeing smoke going through the house," resident Pete Dermanis told ABC. "So we tried to get out. So I'm like, 'Everybody, get out. Get some shoes on. Let's go. We gotta get out of the house."

After the building had been evacuated two of the exterior walls collapsed, which led to the one minor injury of the night. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
