Students at the Robert F. Wagner Jr. Secondary School in Long Island City are furious at Principal Bruce Noble for forgetting to schedule organized dodgeball torture gym as a class—a requirement for graduation in the city. “A school can’t forget to give a class. It’s their responsibility,” one student told CBS 2. But if the seniors and other teachers are so smart, how come nobody realized that they weren't taking gym?
In an effort to make up gym credit in three months, the school is resorting to accepting Wii Fit workouts as credit, and asking students to log hours at private gyms. However, students are accusing Noble of shady business. “They’re telling us to even cheat on the hours. Let’s say you go today for like an hour. They say change it to three hours,” said one student. Another student recorded a conversation with Noble, and when asked what to do if gyms wouldn't sign off on hours, he reportedly said, “if no one cooperates with you, then put in your hours, bring it to Peggy and she will sign it," presumably referring to Assistant Principal Peggy Jayne.
The Department of Education said the entire matter is now under investigation, and visited the school yesterday to check student records. Noble could face disciplinary charges. It's unclear how many students may lose their "H-O-R-S-E" college scholarships because of the mishap.
