An Ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish newspaper called Der Tzitung could find itself in legal trouble for removing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from that iconic photo taken in the Situation Room during the Osama bin Laden mission. Clinton and Director for Counterterrorism Audrey Tomason were both airbrushed out of the photo because the newspaper's policy is not to publish any images of women in case they could be considered sexually suggestive. But when you think about it, it's amazing anybody in the State Department can get any work done with Clinton flouncing around the office distracting them with her feminine wiles.
According to the Daily Mail, "more critical observers suggest the women have been edited... because of an ideological objection to women holding positions of power." The photo released by the White House explicitly states that it "may not be manipulated in any way," so it's possibly Der Tzitung may be hearing from some lawyers. On the other hand, Clinton didn't seem too pleased with how she appeared in the photo, because it looks like she's gasping. She's since said that it was just her allergies causing her to cough.
Writing for The Jewish Week, Rabbi Jason Miller says, "Der Tzitung edited Hillary Clinton out of the photo, thereby changing history. To my mind, this act of censorship is actually a violation of the Jewish legal principle of g'neivat da'at (deceit)."
