Derek Jeter has always shown a knack for rising to the moment. But he may have exceeded his own reputation with his performance in the Yankees 5-4 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday. Jeter, who entered the game two hits short of 3,000, stroked a single to left for his 2,999th hit in the first. His first chance at 3,000 came in the third and he became only the second player ever to hit a homer for his 3,000th hit, blasting a ball to left for only his third homer of the year. But, he wasn't even close to done. With the Yankees trailing 3-2, he led of the fifth with a double and scored the tying run on Curtis Granderson's single. He added another single in the 6th to improve to 4-for-4 and then came up in the 8th with the game tied at 4 and a runner on third. Hollywood couldn't have scripted it better as Jeter lined his fifth hit of the day to center to drive in the winning run and capping off a legendary day for a legendary player.
Chris Capuano came up a little short in a pitchers' duel and the Mets lost 3-1. Daniel Murphy drove in the only New York run against the Giants.
