Despite the fact that Jeremy Lin didn't have quite as Linsational a game as his previous four, he still was the decisive leader in the Linckerbockers comeback win over the Minnesota Timberwolves last night. As Goodwin Sports' Nate Jones put it, "Lin didn't have a great game statistically, but it's amazing how the Knicks now play as a TEAM with him on the floor." The big question is: how will the Knicks and Lin play once Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire are back in the lineup?
Both superstars may be back in the lineup as early at this Tuesday's game against the Toronto Raptors. Could they be facing a Lintastophe of bad chemistry? Mike D'Antoni has been cautiously optimistic about re-figuring Melo in particular into the Lin-led offense:
There will be some adjustments on both people’s parts. I see it as a big, big plus. I see it when Amar’e comes back, there’s another pick-and-roll guy, maybe the best in the game. I see that as a big plus. [Lin, Stoudemire and Anthony] have never played together so we can’t make that conclusion until we see it then we’ll adjust to it. I can’t wait to get those guys back.
One thing's for sure: experts are taking Lin seriously. FiveThirtyEight stat guru Nate Silver weighed in on the Lin phenomenon, ultimately coming to the conclusion that he's no fluke: "Lin has scored his points in impressive fashion, slashing and driving to the basket and creating easy shots for himself." Even the New Yorker has lapsed a little into Linsanity: "We’ve been silent here all week, as Linsanity took hold, figuring everybody must have just been punch drunk from the Super Bowl. This couldn’t be happening, right? We’re not true believers—not quite, not yet—but yes, we’ll take a hit of whatever everyone else is drinking. That was fun."
Mike Lupica at the Daily News is on the same page. And considering the fact that he credits Lin with making the Knicks fun again and bringing life back to the Garden, he may be the most Lintagious: "All Jeremy Lin has done — for now — is not just become the best story of a Knicks season that was going nowhere, a season that could easily have been 8-20 after Saturday night, but become the best story of a whole fast-and-furious NBA season that has mostly been a mess, all those games crammed into a period of time that does feel shorter than a Kardashian marriage."
Following last night's victory—the Knicks' fifth in a row—even Lin was a bit dazed: "I feel like I'm in a dream right now," he told reporters after the game.
