A man has been arrested for allegedly beating a homeless man to death in Highland Park in Brooklyn on Friday.
Police say that the unidentified 45-year-old homeless man was walking with his girlfriend through Highland Park near Jamaica Avenue and Essex Street around 5:30 p.m. on Friday when they were attacked by 36-year-old Abel Palma and a group of men. The victim was left battered and bleeding with a severe head injury; his girlfriend wasn't injured in the attack.
The victim stayed in the park for about four hours before calling 911, and was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he lapsed into a coma and died. Palma was arrested and charged with assault, while his other three companions were charged with trespassing.
It's unclear what sparked the violent confrontation.
