A man was stabbed and killed near Times Square late Monday night, and police said they were still looking for the perpetrator early Tuesday.

NYPD officials said officers were called to the scene around 11:30 p.m. outside a building near West 43rd Street and Broadway, in the heart of the Theater District. When they arrived, they found a 39-year-old man with stab wounds to his face, torso and back, according to police.

Emergency medical workers took the man to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials did not immediately identify him as they worked to notify his family.

Police said they were looking for three men wearing all black who fled the scene in an unknown direction. They said they were still investigating what led to the attack.

NYPD data shows there have been two other homicides so far this year in the Midtown South Precinct, which includes the bustling hubs of Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, Koreatown and Manhattan Mall Plaza. There were no homicides recorded in the precinct during the same timeframe last year.

All other major crime categories in Midtown South are down or at roughly the same level compared to the same period in 2025, the data shows.
