It seems like only yesterday we were watching Mayor Bloomberg's lady friend bound confidently out of a helicopter with her two yellow Labrador retrievers (named Bonnie and Clyde). Now she's hobbling around on crutches, thanks to a freak accident in Central Park last week. Diana Taylor showed up at a gala Tuesday night with her ankle in a cast, and told reporters that she fell in a hole while walking her dogs in the park near the mayor's East 79th Street home.

“I’d love to tell you I did something really amazing,” Taylor told the Post. “But I was walking in the park not looking where I was going with our dogs in the morning, and I stepped in a pothole. And I broke my ankle." A source tells the tabloid Taylor "tripped into a hole, underneath a tree, that had been dug up by one of the park’s resident animals." Isn't it about time the Parks Department rounded up all those abominable rabbits with pocket watches?

The Post also reports that Bloomberg "joked" about the accident, "I actually didn’t count on her stepping into a hole in Central Park and breaking her ankle... You have no idea how long it took her to climb up the steps at Madison Square Garden for our seats at the hockey game." And thanks to those disgraceful muckrakers at ABC News, Bloomberg can't just fly his helicopter up to the box seats anymore.

But on the plus side, the dangerous hole has since been filled in, and sources say Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe's head is now tastefully mounted on a stick to mark the spot.
