A driver was charged with DWI and driving without a license after he struck and killed a 32-year-old woman crossing the street in The Bronx on Saturday afternoon. Police identified the victim as Nydja Herring. According to the Daily News, Herring is a mother of twins.

Police said that Herring was crossing East Tremont Avenue at Van Nest Avenue around 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by the driver of a Volkswagen traveling east on East Tremont. Herring lived about a block away, and the Daily News reports that she was "running across the street to buy something" for a party when she was struck.

Augustus Jenkins, a 28-year-old from Montgomery, was charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. Police sources told the paper that a woman and two children, a 4-year-old and a 10-year-old, were in the car with Jenkins at the time of the collision.

At least three pedestrians were killed by drivers yesterday. The city has seen 10 traffic-related fatalities since the start of the new year.
