Police said Tuesday they are looking for a man suspected of stabbing and killing a 53-year-old man in the Bronx on Monday afternoon.
NYPD officers found the victim, George Ennin, unconscious with multiple stab wounds on Third Avenue and East 157th Street in Melrose around 2 p.m. Monday, according to authorities. Officials said the attack appears to have been unprovoked and Ennin did not know his assailant, who fled west on East 157th Street on foot.
Emergency medical workers took Ennin to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He lived about three blocks from where he was stabbed, police said.
Authorities are still investigating a potential motive and have not yet made any arrests in connection with the incident. They are encouraging anyone with information about the stabbing to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). People can also submit tips on the Crime Stoppers’ website.
NYPD data shows homicides in the 40th Precinct, which includes Melrose, Mott Haven and Port Morris, dropped more than 20% between 2024 and 2025, to 11, which was on par with the citywide decline in homicides. There have been several felony assaults in the precinct so far this year, the data shows.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
