Police have charged a woman with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing another woman at Macy’s flagship Herald Square store in Midtown on Thursday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Officers responded to a 911 call about an assault at the storied location at West 34th Street and Broadway after 3 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Kerri Aherne, a 43-year-old resident of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, had stabbed a 39-year-old woman multiple times in her back and the arm, police said. Emergency medical workers took the 39-year-old to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Officers arrested Aherne, who officials said was also charged with assault, weapons possession and endangering a child’s welfare. Information for her attorney was not immediately available. Authorities said they’re still investigating what led to the stabbing.

The incident marks the second alleged assault at Macy’s flagship in the past month, according to police. A 65-year-old woman was taken into custody in November after authorities said she hit a 71-year-old man on his head multiple times while he was shopping there, CBS reported.

NYPD data shows felony assaults in the Midtown South Precinct, where the store is located, were up slightly this year through Dec. 7 compared to the same point last year, with 516 recorded. Citywide, they’re up less than a half-percent year over year.
