NYPD officers pulled a 200 lb Harlem man to safety after he attempted to jump out of a seventh-floor window.
Responding to a call concerning child neglect and possible drug dealing, officers Vincent Gagliostro and Isaias Alica arrived at the apartment located in a housing project around 8:30 a.m. yesterday and found a man barricaded in a back bedroom. They convinced the man, 40-year-old Michael Mulraine, to open the door to confirm that a child wasn't in danger, and when they did spotted a gun under a mattress.
“I could see the handle of a firearm in between the mattresses,” Alica told the Post. “I struck up a conversation, trying to make him a little more comfortable. I tried to make it seem like I didn’t see the firearm.” When Mulraine tried to flee, the cops blocked him, and he reached for one of their collapsable batons. Unsuccessful, Mulraine shoved the officers and tried to jump out the window.
“He was screaming ‘let me go! Let me go! I want to die!” Alica said. According to DNAinfo, a third officer arrived and pulled Mulraine in. The gun, a single-shot Derringer, wasn't loaded, and no child was in the apartment, although an 11-month-old normally lives there. Mulraine was charged with attempted robbery, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest, and he was treated for a sprained wrist and ankle.
