Just under half of New Yorkers approved of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s performance during his first three months in office, according to a poll published Wednesday by Marist University.
The poll, which was released two days before Mamdani’s 100th day in office, also found 30% of city residents disapproved of his job performance, while another 23% were still unsure.
A far higher percentage — 74% — said they thought Mamdani was working hard as mayor. And 65% approved of his handling of this winter’s storms, despite the weather conditions contributing to the deaths of at least 29 people.
The poll surveyed 1,454 adult New Yorkers from March 26 to 31, according to Marist University, which noted the respondents gave him “positive reviews on his job performance.”
Mamdani’s approval numbers lag behind those of his predecessor Eric Adams during a similar point in his administration. A Marist poll conducted the first week of March 2022, two months after Adams took office, found 61% of New Yorkers approved of the job he was doing.
Those numbers obviously did not hold. A poll from Quinnipiac University found the former mayor's approval rating fell to just 20% in March 2025 after a litany of federal investigations into his administration, including his own criminal indictment.
Mamdani said he will leave it to New Yorkers to “grade” him.
“We are coming to the end of 100 days in office and we have sought to make this period one where we provide New Yorkers with a glimpse as to what these next four years will look like,” Mamdani said at a press conference shortly after Wednesday’s poll was published. “We’ve looked to be ambitious, unrelenting and to move at the same speed as New Yorkers do.”
Mamdani cited specific accomplishments of his administration, including his work with Gov. Kathy Hochul to expand child care in the city. The mayor also said the city has filled 100,000 potholes since he was inaugurated at the start of the year.
Of the adults surveyed, 86% were registered voters, according to Marist, and the poll had margin of error of 3.3 points.
