Could it really be true? Is our long nightmare really over? It certainly seems that way as multiple reports state that Donnie Walsh has decided to become the Knicks' President, agreeing to a three-year deal worth around $15 million.
Any remaining Knicks fans are probably saying 'thank you' to Donnie Walsh right now. Why Walsh would put his reputation in jeopardy and his retirement on hold to run the Knicks isn't entirely clear, but maybe he feels a sense of duty to his hometown. And, while $15 million is plenty of money, he'll earn every penny dealing with Jim Dolan and crew.
Fixing the Knicks won't be easy though. The good news is that Walsh will have a top draft pick to start the rebuilding process, but the Knicks are way over the salary cap and with mediocre talent that most teams wouldn't trade for. Perhaps Isiah Thomas will become a GM somewhere else and trade for all his old players. Walsh will have to start from the bottom to fix Isiah's mess and it will probably take all three years of his contract before the results start to come in.
