A 16-year-old cyclist was killed after he was struck head-on by a hit-and-run driver in Queens, police said.

Darwin Durazno, a resident of Corona, Queens, was biking south on College Point Boulevard last Friday when he was hit by the driver of a Toyota Camry. At around 9:30 p.m., police said, the driver veered across a double yellow line to overtake another vehicle, then struck Durazno.

The driver did not stop, and police later recovered the unoccupied Camry at a nearby address in College Point. The vehicle appeared to be a rental car.

Durazno was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx at around 9:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead three days later.

No arrests have been made.

Giancarlo De Lellis, a general contractor in Queens who works with the victim's father, remembered Durazno as a "respectful and hardworking" boy who helped out on job sites during the summer.

"He’d come to learn whatever he could learn from his father," De Lellis told Gothamist. "Even when he wasn’t in school, he was trying to keep busy with his father."

"The father is destroyed with the situation and I'm sure the rest of the family feels the same way," he added.

A GoFundMe started by De Lellis has raised more than $6,000 for funeral expenses.
