[UPDATE BELOW] Thieves stole a Greyhound bus from a West Side maintenance facility and have been spotted driving the vehicle around the city. After heisting the empty coach from a lot at the corner of 12th Avenue and West 30th Street on Feb. 14, the vehicle was reportedly spotted heading towards LaGuardia airport today, a police source said.

After receiving a tip this morning that Bus 6707 was heading towards the airport, police tried to recover it. But when they arrived on the scene, the bus—which has Texas plates—was gone.

Greyhound spokesman Tim Stokes told Gothamist that the bus company learned last night that the vehicle had been stolen. "It had no passengers on board at the time," he said. "As of now we are working with our local law enforcement to locate the coach."

UPDATE: WCBS newsman Steve Scott reports on his Twitter that the Greyhound bus has been found. NYPD sources confirmed to Gothamist that the coach has been recovered in Queens, though its exact location hasn't been released.

UPDATE (2:03 pm): Police scanner reports now indicate that the bus "was not stolen, just 'misplaced.'" An NYPD source couldn't clarify exactly what that means or how the bus went missing, but she said it was recovered by officers from the 115th Precinct, which covers Jackson Heights, East Helmhurst, and North Corona. A Greyhound spokesman said he had not heard anything about the bus being recovered.

UPDATE (5:25 pm): A Greyhound spokesman told Gothamist that police have recovered the bus near the corner of 29th Avenue and Astoria Boulevard, and that it was stolen, not "misplaced."
