While fun, this latest dip into frigid conditions will come to an end this evening as the Arctic air mass moves to the east of us and the temperature begins a slow, steady climb. A thin gruel of clouds will hold the temperature to the lower 20s this afternoon. Today's high won't happen until midnight, when it will be in the mid 20s.
The daily temperature curve is going to be all screwed up on Saturday as tomorrow's low will happen just after midnight tonight and the high, in the mid 30s, will occur just before midnight tomorrow night. There is a slight chance we could see a few light flurries, or maybe even rain, tomorrow. Whatever falls won't amount to much, however.
Sometime late Saturday night a weak cold front is expected to pass through the city and set up shop somewhere to our south. A stalled front makes for an unhappy forecaster! We'll be in for several days of "unsettled conditions" meaning a good chance for snow, rain or something in between.
The type of precipitation depends on where the front settles and figuring that out is kind of murky. Generally look for light rain on Sunday with a high in the low 40s. There is a better chance for precipitation on Monday, and it will be cooler, so maybe a rain/snow mix during the day changing to all snow at night? AccuWeather says 1-3" on Monday night but that seems to be the outlier forecast. Any precipitation should be gone by Tuesday but next week looks to stay cooler than normal.
