A 69-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run truck driver in Hell's Kitchen this morning. Shortly after 10 a.m., the unidentified woman was crossing West 41st Street from south to north when a truck driver made a right turn from 9th Avenue onto West 41st Street, fatally striking her. This type of pedestrian fatality happens so frequently that it's known in some circles as a "right hook"—and it's particularly common with truck drivers, who have a blind spot on the right side.
After running over the pedestrian, the truck driver then fled the scene. The victim was rushed to St Luke's hospital, where she was pronounced DOA. The NYPD says the Accident Investigation Squad is on scene, and the investigation ongoing.
