The NYPD says a young man jumped to his death in Lower Manhattan yesterday afternoon, landing on the roof of Stuyvesant High School.
According to authorities, the unidentified 20-year-old man jumped from the roof of 41 River Terrace, a 45-story building on Chambers and West Streets, at around 4:23 p.m. Cops say they found him unconscious and unresponsive on the roof of Stuyvesant High School at 345 Chambers Street. When EMS arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe the young man entered 41 River Terrace earlier, then went up to the top floor and jumped. Stuyvesant students were reportedly evacuated from the building during the ensuing police investigation. "We didn’t know what was happening — we were just told to get out," one high schooler told the Daily News. The victim is not believed to be a student at the school.
