Just last month Mayor Bloomberg, whose made this project one of his third-term babies, told people that, "Stanford is desperate to do it—I’m not exaggerating." Apparently they weren't that desperate.

And then there were four. Though seven schools eventually submitted proposals for the high-tech college that Mayor Bloomberg is keen to throw cash at, hizzoner says he has already ruled out three of them.

Proposals to bring a new applied science school to the city include spots in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Roosevelt Island, and Governor's Island.

The city wants a new high-tech campus and lots of top schools are interested, including Cornell, Stanford an NYU.

Cornell has teamed up with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in a bid to bring a high-tech university to the city, while Stanford hopes its alliance with City College of NY will help its proposal.
