Between the alleged lesbian trysts and many, many teacher-student hookups, Brooklyn's James Madison High School has really earned itself the endearing nickname of "Horndog High." Though trashier news outlets might not want to savor the connection between all of these incidents, the James Madison students sure do. And some of the more self-aware ones are rapping about it: “By exposing what's going on I hope the teachers and the administration change their act,” 16-year-old Jay Maslow told the News. You can listen to his "Horndog High" ode, “Ghost Rhymer," below.
Maslow, who raps under the name DOV, compares the antics at the school to a "porno site," calling out faculty for racist and homophobic remarks, not cleaning up swastikas in the bathroom, trading weed for sex, bad hairlines and poor SAT prep. The school immediately contacted Maslow’s parents and demanded a meeting after he put the song online Monday, but reportedly backed down when they learned Maslow's father is a lawyer: “I want to expose the truth,” Maslow said. “Why don’t I have the right to speak about that? It’s my First Amendment right. I learned that in school.”
Could Maslow, who is on Horror Flick Entertainment label, just be trying to trade in on his high school's notoriety for some attention to his rap career? Either way, he does sound sincere about finding his school's reputation "sad"—“When you tell family and friends that you go to James Madison High School and they say, 'You go there?’ with that funny look, nobody wants that,” he said. “You want to be known for something good.”
