A lawyer for Peter Madoff, brother of admitted multi-billion dollar Ponzi man Bernard Madoff, tried to get a NY state appeals court to overturn the freeze on his assets. Peter Madoff worked for brother Bernie's investment firm, but has not been charged with any wrongdoing (though the fed are investigating). His lawyer said, "My client can’t spend a dime, he can’t take a subway ride, he can’t buy a loaf of bread, pay his attorneys." Well, maybe he should have looked a little closer at his brother's business goings on! Bloomberg News reports that today's attempt revealed Peter Madoff agreed to a "voluntary" asset freeze in December: He was given "$10,000 a month for expenses... allow[ing him] to pay his mortgage and required him to provide prosecutors with a receipt for any purchase of more than $150." Ultimately, though, the court decided today to keep the freeze on Peter.
