The NYPD's Gang Unit was checking out the Bronx home of a suspect gangster and, according to reports, found 12 firearms ("including five assault weapons"), 2000 rounds of ammunition, night vision goggles, binoculars, a bullet proof vest, M-80 explosives, some cocaine, scales, a cocaine grinder, a vacuum seal presser, money counter and "a jar that appeared to be filled with large marijuana buds." The Post quipped, "The Bronx hasn't seen this much firepower since the '27 Yankees."
The apartment's tenant is Victor Miri, who the authorities believe is a member of Albanian gang the "Yaks," but his lawyer says he's a bookkeeper. Miri, 29, is being held on $200,000 bail; he, along with others, including his brother, were charged with charges, including criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of marijuana and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. Miri's lawyer was adamant about her clients being "solid members" of the community—according to the Daily News, she said, "I don't think people should make assumptions about these men. I think that night vision goggles are really cool. There's no problem if anybody wants to buy night vision goggles."
One law enforcement source told the Post, "You don't expect to find an arsenal of weapons like this," said one law-enforcement source. "Of all the apartment 2Bs in the city, I am hopeful this is the only one stocked with 2,000 rounds of ammunition."
