Six teenagers were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning outside a party venue in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, according to police.
Officers responded at approximately 1:15 a.m. to a 911 call reporting multiple people shot outside 2929 Atlantic Ave., an NYPD spokesperson said.
When police officers arrived, they found six victims ranging in age from 15 to 17. A 15-year-old girl was shot in the chest, hip and leg, while another 15-year-old girl was shot in the right leg. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the left arm. Two 16-year-old boys were shot — one in the left foot and one in the right arm — and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the right leg.
Emergency medical responders took four of the victims to Brookdale University Hospital. The other two victims were taken to Kings County Hospital. All six are in stable condition, police said.
Police said the shooting occurred outside a venue where a party was taking place, though it remains unclear whether the victims were attending the event.
The venue, Burbuja Events, said in a social media post that it had hosted a Sweet Sixteen party that ended at approximately 1 a.m. It said no shots were fired inside the building.
At a press conference Sunday, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said security camera footage showed two unidentified men walking toward the venue before opening fire on the crowd.
“Both individuals displayed firearms and discharged multiple rounds toward a crowd gathered outside of the venue,” Tisch said.
The suspects fled on foot, authorities said.
Tisch added that while the motive is not yet confirmed, the incident “appears to be gang-related.”
Detectives are continuing to investigate.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Tisch said. “NYPD detectives are following all leads, and we'll provide updates as more information becomes available.”
No one has been arrested for the shooting and a motive has not been determined, police said.
