Now that future Hall Of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos, the football world has focused its attention on where ultra-religious young quarterback/meme generator/metaphor Tim Tebow might end up. And according to multiple reports, the Jets have a sincere and "real" interest in trading for him. For current QB Mark Sanchez, the news that his team is STILL exploring their options even after they gave him a three-year extension must be sadder than when he learned "In The Heights" had closed.

As of Tuesday, the Jets were considered a longshot contender for Tebow behind the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, and Miami Dolphins—but according to ESPN's Rich Cimini, their interest has now intensified. The Jets like the idea of using him in tandem with Sanchez to run the wildcat formation, a favorite of head coach Rex Ryan and new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. But they also want him to leadership: it seems team management is concerned about the negative perception of its locker room after their implosion last year, and they believe that "bringing in a guy like (Tebow) would help." The source told ESPN: "It makes perfect sense."

Except...not. Based on this rationale, it would seem the Jets think that Tebow could be to them what Jeremy Lin has been for the Knicks—an underdog with strong-held religious beliefs who came into the team and made everyone better/inspired players to be more selfless. Of course while Lin has, by all accounts, a humble and somewhat reserved personality, Tebow is a proselytizing lightening rod for controversy with the worst throwing motion in the NFL, and a penchant for mentioning Jesus in every other sentence that comes out of his mouth. This seems like a disastrous combination to bring to the highly-charged NYC media world.

And the dallies agree on this one: "Bringing in Tebow would be a disaster for the Jets and specifically, Mark Sanchez. There is no reason to bring another circus to town when the Jets have a locker room full of sideshows," wrote the Daily News. "The last thing Ryan needs, the last thing Sanchez needs, the last thing that fragile locker room needs, is another New York media-frenzied distraction," wrote the Post. "The idea that Tebow would solve the Jets' locker room issues is ridiculous. As a gadget player? Or third string QB? Come on. Can not see how this doesn't turn into a mess. Few bad games by Sanchez and won't people be calling for Tebow?" tweeted NY Times' Judy Battista.

Not everyone is so down on putting some more internal pressure on Sanchez to step up his game: "I like the move for the Jets. They need as many natural leaders and winners as possible. Maybe Sanchez can learn by osmosis," tweeted Boston Globe's Greg Bedard. But of course a sportswriter from Boston would love to see chaos reign in NYC. The most important opinion on whether Tebow would fit in here doesn't come from any writers or pundits though—it comes from the players: "We don't need Tebow. We sell out every home game let him go to Jacksonville Tampa or Miami,"tweeted virile cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
